36: A multisensory journey through language, memory, and art at GOCAT

36 is the exhibition that presents a new body of work by Bledar Gramo at the Tirana Gallery of Contemporary Art, closing the gallery’s 2025 program with a powerful artistic statement. Named after the number of letters in the Albanian alphabet, the exhibition offers an immersive, multisensory experience that combines visual, sound, and movement-based works, inviting visitors to engage with art on multiple levels.

Curated by Alban Kardashi, 36 showcases Gramo’s unique ability to integrate iconography, voice, body, and historical narrative into a cohesive artistic universe. Kardashi notes that the exhibition challenges traditional sensory hierarchies, creating a space where sight is not the only point of engagement; visitors are encouraged to experience art through hearing, touch, movement, and even smell, forming a fully embodied encounter with the works.

Bledar Gramo belongs to the category of artists who use figurative forms not only to represent matter but also to construct systems of memory and historical reflection. His works encourage viewers to reflect on cultural and personal histories while experiencing a range of emotions. The exhibition is structured in two distinct sections, guiding visitors through different conceptual and emotional phases, offering a deliberate transition from one sensory and narrative state to another.

With 36, the Tirana Gallery of Contemporary Art continues to affirm its role as a leading platform for contemporary artistic expression in Albania. Supported by Mane Foundation, the gallery presents high-quality cultural experiences that celebrate both national and international contemporary art. This exhibition not only showcases Gramo’s innovative practice but also underscores the gallery’s ongoing commitment to fostering cultural development, inspiring audiences, and positioning Albania on the contemporary art map.
