Built in 1979, the plant is one of the first investments in the minerals industry in Albania. Located in a strategic position, close to the Mine of Bulqiza and other chrome reserves, the plant covers an area of 14 hectares. The Ferrochrome plant of Burrel has three electric furnaces with 9 MW installing power. Currently two furnaces are operational, producing around 26,000 tons of ferrochrome a year. Within the next two years AlbChrome expects to turn operational the other furnace as part of the company’s investment plans.
The final and only product of the Ferrochrome plant of Burrel is ferro-chrome with high carbon content (C= 6–8 %), whereas the chrome in ferrochrome is Cr=more than 65% (base 65 %).
