Job Position: Legal Advisor

Overview of the Role
The Legal Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the legal, regulatory, and compliance functions of the organization. This role ensures that the company operates in full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to banking and financial activities, professional and ethical standards and practices, market and financial security regulations (AML/CFT), GDPR regulations, procedures and manuals applied internally by the company as well as group standards, while mitigating legal risks. The Legal officer will also lead corporate governance efforts and provide strategic legal advice to the executive team.
Main Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with clients, partners, banks, and service providers.
- Provide legal advice on corporate, commercial, financial, and labor law matters.
- Support the preparation and review of loan agreements, financial products, and related documentation.
- Support the preparation and review of internal policies and procedures to align with local and international laws.
- Ensure compliance with legislation governing financial institutions, including consumer protection laws.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations (e.g., KYC/AML, PSD2, digital payments, e-money, or loan regulations.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Bank of Albania, financial supervisory authorities) and assist in preparing necessary documentation for licensing, reporting, or inspections.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the financial sector and advise management accordingly.
- Represent the company before administrative or regulatory bodies, and coordinate with external legal counsel when needed.
- Support corporate governance processes, board resolutions, and company secretarial duties.
- Work closely with product, tech, and compliance teams to ensure legal soundness of new financial products and digital services.
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR or data protection law 124/2024).
- Draft privacy policies, data processing agreements, and review data-sharing practices.
- Provide support in drafting and maintaining standard response templates to be used for various requests received from regulators, institutions, and other relevant authorities.
- Provide support in preparing template answer/request forms for initiating bad debt collection procedures, as well as managing legal follow-ups such as pre-litigation notices, settlement agreements, and coordination with the collection team to ensure IPE’s interests are well protected.
- Advise the collections team on compliant recovery strategies and ensure customer communications follow consumer credit and debt collection laws.
Competencies and Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Law (Attorney at Law license is an advantage).
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience, preferably in the financial or banking sector.
- Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, labor, and financial law.
- Experience in regulatory issues related to financial services and interaction with supervisory authorities.
- Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and research skills.
- High professional ethics, responsibility, and ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Albanian and English (spoken and written).
