Biljana Stefanovic- Operational Manager, Jumbo Bosnia and Herzegovina
Success stories aren’t always loud, they’re often built quietly, over time, through hard work, belief, and people who dare to say “yes” even when the road ahead isn’t clear. This is one of those stories. Eight years ago, Biljana joined JUMBO Bosnia, at a time when both the company and BALFIN Group were still finding their place in a new market. What followed was a journey shaped by courage, values, and a strong team spirit. Today, as Operations Manager, Biljana reflects on a career marked not just by promotions, but by the people she’s empowered and the culture she’s helped shape.
Describe your professional journey at BALFIN Group.
I joined JUMBO eight years ago, at a time when both JUMBO and BALFIN Group were relatively unknown in the Bosnian market. It was a decision that came with a fair share of uncertainty, but also with a strong sense of opportunity. I started as an Assistant Store Manager, and after one year, I was promoted to Store Manager. In 2022, I took on the role of Area Manager within the Operations Department, and more recently, I’ve stepped into the position of Operations Manager.
This journey has been filled with personal milestones and professional growth, all made possible by the support I’ve consistently felt from the organization. The structure and values of the BALFIN system, along with the healthy, collaborative atmosphere within our team, have played a key role in shaping my path. It’s been a rewarding experience, and I’m proud to be part of a group that truly invests in its people.
What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work at BALFIN Group?
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, BALFIN was present for a long time with just one company, so its full scope wasn’t immediately visible for us. Still, for those of us who are part of it, there’s a strong sense of belonging to something greater. That connection has only strengthened over time, and today, we genuinely care about seeing BALFIN expand in our market in the way we know it can boldly, successfully, and with the same integrity that defines it elsewhere.
What are you most proud of in your career at BALFIN Group?
It’s certainly the team I’ve helped build. I’ve had the opportunity to select and mentor individuals who started in junior positions, and many of them have grown significantly, some even advancing through multiple roles. I focused less on experience and more on attitude, looking for people who were committed, honest, and resilient.
Describe a recent professional achievement that you believe also contributes to your personal success.
I wouldn’t say an achievement, but a way of working with people that shaped me. Professionally, I’ve learned to communicate openly and respond quickly to challenges, those are skills that reflected in my personal life as well.
What’s something that happened that can only happen at BALFIN Group?
Only here can a wild idea at 9 AM turn into a full-blown project by noon, with everyone on board, no complaints, just action. That kind of drive is rare, and it’s real.
Describe the best day you’ve had at work.
When we were asked to open a new store significantly earlier than expected. I laughed at how impossible it sounded, but deep down, I was looking forward to doing it. Pure adrenaline. And, yes, we did it.
