“aDigital Perspective” / “GOCAT” Gallery exhibition exploring the impact of technology through the lens of analog art

“GOCAT” Gallery presents the exhibition aDigital Perspective, bringing together, for the first time, ten emerging artists from Italy and the Balkans, offering a perspective both similar and distinct on art and the impact of digital technologies.

This exhibition is part of a cultural project organized by the Italian Cultural Institutes of Tirana, Belgrade, and Bucharest, inviting art lovers to reflect on the optimistic future of the artistic landscape. The exhibition is open until March 31, and its displayed works are as diverse as the techniques used, including installation art, painting, photography, and more, despite their analog roots.

The invitation was extended during the opening evening, attended by notable personalities, artists, and public figures. Admission to GOCAT Gallery is free of charge.

In his welcoming speech, Alessandro Ruggera, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Tirana, described the exhibition as an opportunity “to understand not only the impact of technology on creativity but also its influence on the construction of identity and our interpersonal relationships.”

Marco Bassan, the curator of the exhibition and founder of Spazio Taverna, a renowned multidisciplinary center for contemporary art in Italy, described aDigital Perspective as a meeting point between two worlds. It connects Italian artists, focused on examining art history and interpreting it through the lens of the digital world, with Balkan artists, who, in contrast, take a more socially and politically engaged approach and see digitalization as a significant challenge.

Bassan emphasizes that such an exhibition would not convey its message as effectively in any other gallery as it does in GOCAT.

“Although it is a new space, I must say that GOCAT Gallery has gained an important role in the contemporary art scene of the capital, and it is simply the right place for the aDigital Perspective exhibition,” he says.

Ena Bulku, the Artistic Director of GOCAT Gallery, regards the exhibition as the successful result of the collaboration between gallery and Italian Cultural Institute. She further describes the exhibition as dynamic and youthful, reinforcing the idea that technology, like everything else, follows a trajectory filled with memories, personal experiences, and convictions.

Ledia Kostandini, the Albanian artist participating in the exhibition with her work “Aftermoments,” believes that technology is a great advantage of our time but remains relative in terms of what it represents and how it operates. For visitors to the gallery, Kostandini presents fragments of her childhood—specifically, photographs that have been reworked and stitched together to form a blanket affected by the fragmented resolution of pixels.

“Feelings are the last resistance against a programmed world, and I believe that the heart will always triumph over reason,” she says when asked about her piece.

Following its display in Tirana, aDigital Perspective will be exhibited in the cities of Bucharest, Belgrade, and Pristina, with the same warm invitation—to pause and reflect on the discussion ignited by technological innovations and the transformation of art.
