GOCAT – Tirana Contemporary Art Gallery, part of Mane Foundation, opened this Tuesday “Dione of the Earth”, a contemporary exhibition dedicated entirely to the expressive language of ceramic art. Bringing together mythology, femininity and material memory, the exhibition transforms the gallery space into an immersive dialogue between earth and creation.
Curated by Suzana Varvarica, the exhibition features five Albanian artists, Mira Kuçuku, Llambrini Dëna Bojaxhiu, Laura Sllamniku Kryeziu, Blerta Surroi and Gresa Kurti, whose diverse artistic approaches and generational perspectives converge through the symbolic figure of Dione, the ancient goddess associated with the earth, fertility and feminine creative force.

Through sculpture and ceramic installations, the artists explore clay not simply as a medium, but as a living material charged with history, mythology and transformation. Each body of work creates its own visual universe while remaining interconnected through a curatorial narrative that reflects continuity, identity and shared cultural memory. Rooted in ancient Indo-European mythology, the concept revisits Dione as both goddess and archetype, a timeless embodiment of creation, intuition and resilience. The exhibition draws inspiration from the enduring relationship between woman and earth, where ceramics become vessels of both fragility and permanence.
Curator Suzana Varvarica describes the exhibition as “a meeting point between mythological memory and contemporary artistic expression,” adding that ceramics carry “a primal connection to humanity, to touch, to earth and to the origins of creation itself.”
For Ena Bulku, Director of GOCAT, the exhibition represents an important moment for the gallery’s evolving artistic program. “What made this project especially meaningful for GOCAT was its originality and curatorial depth,” she noted. “It introduces ceramics in a contemporary and conceptual dimension, while also creating a powerful dialogue between tradition and contemporary artistic practice.”
With “Dione of the Earth”, GOCAT continues its mission of fostering innovative artistic practices and supporting contemporary Albanian artists through exhibitions that create meaningful cultural experiences and new forms of dialogue with the public.
The exhibition will remain open until June 28 at GOCAT.
