Matilda Hoxhalli- Senior Treasury Specialist, Balfin Construction
Do you prefer to live in the past or in the present?
I would prefer to live in the past, in Europe, during the period after the Second World War. It was one of the most beautiful periods, with people’s great desire to live life, to understand its importance, but at the same time to be part of a process that brings joy: rebuilding, regenerating life, the economy, society, and strengthening peace, forgiveness, and coexistence.
What is the most interesting place you’ve ever visited?
Every place has its interesting aspects, but I would highlight my visit to Merode Castle. Merode Castle is near Aachen in Germany, but the timing of the visit, the friends who accompanied us, and the way everything was organized undoubtedly make it one of the most interesting places I have ever visited.
If you had to live without music or without films, which would you choose?
Music is an inseparable part of everyday life. If film is an added value to daily life, music is an absolute necessity.
What community issue interests you the most?
One of the issues I would like to be involved in, and for which I wish more people would engage, is the fight to remove from the streets all children who beg, live on the streets, and are unprotected. Every human being deserves a safe and dignified life.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
To North Korea, to once again remember the situation Albania was in 35 years ago and to appreciate the positive things we have today, which we once lacked.
What is the last book or movie that you enjoyed the most?
It’s not the latest movie I’ve watched, but one of the films I liked the most and that remains unforgettable for me is “Miracle in Cell No. 7”. Regarding books, there are several, but I would mention “A Woman in Berlin”.
If you could meet a historical figure, who would you choose and what would you ask?
I would “take a risk” by meeting Hitler, and my question for him would be: Was there ever a real possibility to prevent the Second World War?!
When you were a child, what did you want to become when you grew up?
My dream was to become a journalist. I didn’t actually become a journalist, but my husband is one.
What is your favorite season and why?
Winter. I think the reason is obvious: I’m from Korçë.
